Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

What is it?

A keyhole surgery to remove the gallbladder, usually due to gallstones causing pain, infection, or inflammation.

  • Gallstones causing abdominal pain or indigestion
  • Gallbladder infection (cholecystitis)

How is it done?

  • Done under general anesthesia
  • 3–4 small incisions made in the abdomen
  • A laparoscope (camera) and instruments are inserted
  • Gallbladder is safely detached and removed

  • Hospital stay: 1–2 days (often same day discharge)
  • Resume normal activities in 3–5 days
