How is it done?

A small incision is made in the back

A thin tube (nephroscope) is inserted into the kidney

Stones are broken into pieces using laser or ultrasound

Fragments are removed through the tube
Recovery:

Usually 2–3 days in hospital

Back to normal activities in about a week
